Maturitas and canonical maturity escape defination. Can one speak instead of presbyteral maturity or of matrimonial maturity? Maybe. Uncertain standards for what constitutes a sufficiency or a minimum compound a more basic confusion as to what might constitute maturity. Recent discourse between the social sciences and theology perhaps has created an ambiguity not previously associated with presbyteral maturity, and has exacerbated the ambiguity curretly associated with the notion of matrimonial maturity developing in praxis.
